This one took a long time in coming together. I knew that I wanted a fairly complex arrangement, and that the whole thing would be centred around the female vocal hook that you hear repeated throughout. In the end, when it came to recording, the entire middle section was improvised within one take on the piano, until kicking back to the main refrain and the chorus, which then allowed me to complete the backing track around it, and then add in the lyrics after a lot of consideration and redrafts. Another good example of how the demo room came to help me. A lot of effort on this one, but very much worth it!
lyrics
Let's go walking, let's go driving,
Get away from all behind us,
Just keep moving ever forward;
Leave be all that could remind us.
You and I have come to a place where there's no more love and no more to hate,
Just day by day; routine upon routine.
There's no more passion there's no more fire,
It's just statements, bills demands and reminders,
It's a business now, not a king and his queen.
So take me out and show me the places,
Tell me all those tales and show me the faces
Combining up to make a story shared.
Give me signs, give me a reason
Make me want to stay one extra season.
Wipe the slate and make our futures clear.
Let's go walking, let's go driving,
Get away from all behind us,
Just keep moving ever forward;
Leave be all that could remind us.
Leave the thought, burn all the pictures
Tear the diary up, rewrite the pages,
Take the memories out and start again from clean.
So take me out and show me the places,
Tell me all those tales and show me the faces
Combining up to make a story shared.
Give me signs, give me a reason
Make me want to stay one extra season.
Wipe the slate and make our futures clear.
Let's go walking, let's go driving,
Get away from all behind us,
Just keep moving ever forward;
Leave be all that could remind us.
Change my name, change the location,
Change my address, change my occupation,
Erase the trace of all that might have been.
Clinging on to happier memory,
Clinging on to a possibly maybe,
Clinging on to a time that we once shared.
Clinging on to happier memory,
Clinging on to a possibly maybe,
Clinging on to a time that we once shared.
So take me out and show me the places,
Tell me all those tales and show me the faces
Combining up to make a story shared.
Give me signs, give me a reason
Make me want to stay one extra season.
Wipe the slate and make our futures clear.
