Falling

from Sailing by Iain Clarke

/

about

This was one of those late night writes, sat at the piano, letting the chords bleed into each other under the lamplight and bathing in the mood. The ghost of David Gray I think can be felt here, both in the chord structure but also in the way I'm rhyming.

It's a hopeful song. From the darkest of nights there is always a dawn.

lyrics

From the moment you awake,
It's a feeling you just can't shake.
Its echo is calling;
Falling.

As the wood obscures the trees
And the guiding hand behind sets you free.
You stumble; stalling;
Falling.

Like a leaf on the wind,
Unsure what the journey brings;
Free falling, blown free
Find a way to me.

Stood fast against the tide
Of the bitterness and rage that burns inside.
Learning, reforming;
Falling.

And when the blackness runs to hide
And you find yourself bathed within the light;
Reminded; recalling;
Not falling.

Hope restoring,
Not
Falling.
