about

The chords and structure for this had been around in a rudimentary form during my final days with Hobson, and it was one of the first backing tracks to go down. I knew I wanted a more straight forward style of arrangement compared to the 'Uneven Slices' arrangements and this helped to set the tone. A modish sounding indie rock number with some leans towards The Beatles.

The lyrics are quite existential but reflect the important idea of escaping the day to day mindset, realising your small place in the scope time, the universe and everything and that it is a brief, fleeting, but beautiful thing to cherish. Given what was to come it's rather poignant from a personal level.

The crowd noise at the end feeds into the story. Two days before the attack I played my last gig to date with a Beatles tribute band in front of a large crowd at a festival.We had a rapturous reception which feeds into the next song...

lyrics

Three way road;
Not sure which way I need to go;
Charging on without direction,
I feel real flow,
Not guided by a thought I know,
Everything is one reaction.

Here I see me,
Just a force of motion; kinaesthetic oration,
Here I see me,
Just brief distraction in my own obsession,
Here I see me out tonight.

Way not shown,
Just blown along an endless path
Journey not a destination,
Lent not owned,
The time we have it seems so long,
It’s nothing but a tiny fraction.

Here I see me,
A moment’s light in an age of darkness,
Here I see me,
A tiny interlude in a grand narration,
Here I see me out tonight.

Everything you know
Is something that is soon forgotten.
Everything you’re shown,
Changes from the fresh to rotten.
So the world has turned, you’ve yet to learn,
It’s a borrowed gift so make today your passion,
Now, here I see me out tonight.

I’m a universe in a speck of desert sand;
I’m infinity in the newborn baby’s hand.
I’m everything you’ve heard,
And everything you’ve ever needed ,
I’m all you never earned,
And every lesson you never heeded.

Here I see me,
Just brief distraction in my own obsession,
Here I see me,
A tiny interlude in a grand narration,
Here I see me out tonight.

Everything you know
Is something that is soon forgotten.
Everything you’re shown,
Changes from the fresh to rotten.
So the world has turned, you’ve yet to learn,
It’s a borrowed gift so make today your passion,
Now, here I see me out tonight.
