about

A seasonal inflected love song, with elements of Nick Drake in the lyrics, listening back on it. The sound came from playing about with a simple 5th arpeggio and elements underneath it. The effect is pure Elbow! I was thinking of making this a Christmas song (angels in the sky above the shepherds singing ‘hallelujah, amen’ instead of ‘morning to the sunset’ etc), but I could never get the lyrics right, being a very unreligious person. As it is, it becomes a quite progressive (with a small 'p')choral piece with big orchestration with a rare thing in my case; a lyrical theme!

lyrics

My winter came to spring, casting light on the shadows,
And with its song to sing, I threw open my window.
Stay
Morning to the sunset,
Be the sun in my daytime and
Stay
Sunset to the morning,
Be the moon, light my nights as

My summer came again, bringing warmth, bringing laughter
And in the endless days, I saw no time ever after.

Stay
Morning to the sunset,
Be the sun in my daytime and
Stay
Sunset to the morning,
Be the moon, light my nights evermore.

The leaves began to fall, but the trees stood still proudly,
And though the darkness falls, your light’s never-ending.

Stay
Morning to the sunset,
Be the sun in my daytime and
Stay
Sunset to the morning,
Be the moon, light my nights evermore.
