An attempt by me to write for a sassy female performance and, though, she hadn't been expecting to sing it, Gemma got this very, very quickly. . There’s guitarlele on this which is me trying to get more variation into the sounds on the disc along with ta touch of sax (Leigh Normington being in mind here), and the digital delay on the guitar, which was something of an early Hobson sound. People have referred to this as a cross between Bryan Adams and Crowded House. They may have been more than right but I don’t see this as a problem!
lyrics
So long, so far but still too close for comfort.
Time lost, high cost, you’re not cheap but you’re worth it.
You send tremors through ground when you say my name,
The stakes are too high but I’m playing your game,
Too strong, dragged along by the strength of your current.
You took the shot; I’m lying hit,
I saw the trap from the moment that I walked in.
You took me down, you’ve won the round,
But I’m not out of the battle.
You played me along, like a favourite song,
But I’ve more notes that you could ever dare to hope to hit,
You caught me out when I was so unaware.
You caught me good on the bad side.
Blue eyes, while lies, nothing taken as written.
Aim straight, too late, I’m already smitten.
You’re turning my head so I can’t see the way,
Putting words in my mouth, until I’ve nothing to say.
Hung on, too long, now you’ve got me bitten.
I’m taking the time, I’ll set you high,
I can climb but I’ll never get to reach the top,
You can put me down but I’ll still be around,
Cause you’ve this to remember,
You played me along, like a favourite song,
But I’ve more notes that you could ever dare to hope to hit,
You caught me out when I was so unaware.
You caught me good on the bad side.
So long, so far but still too close for comfort.
Time lost, high cost, you’re not cheap but you’re worth it.
